The Reverend Glenice Robinson-Como is celebrant for Feast of St. Francis of Assisi
The Reverend Glenice Robinson-Como, Canon and Bishop’s Fellow for the Diocese of Texas will celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi and the 69th Anniversary of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Prairie View on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. The public is invited to the service which will be followed by a reception in the Parish Hall.
The church was established as a mission church of the Diocese of Texas in October 1950 and became a full parish church in February of 1992. Reverend Rhonda Rogers is the Deacon in Charge.
Reverend Robinson-Como was born and raised in Virginia where she received her early education. She holds the B.S. from Virginia Commonwealth University, the Master of Divinity from the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and a Diploma of Theological Studies from the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas.
Robinson-Como previously worked in procurement and contract management for the Department of Defense in El Segundo, California, the Metro Transit Authority in Los Ángeles, California.
Her civic and spiritual engagements include serving as a Staff Ombudsman with the Houston-Galveston Area Agency on Aging, secretary to Office of Black Ministries for the office of Episcopal Ministries, chaired the diocesan Commission on Black Ministry, served as Canon Pastor at Christ Church Cathedral, chaplain to The Beacon and recently appointed as a Bishop’s Fellow for the diocese.
Glenice loves the theatre, WNBA basketball, world religions, tai-chi and Walter Mosley mystery novels. She is the author of several meditations, including a meditation in the book, “Yes! Jesus Loves Me-31 Love Stories,” by Kathy H. Culmer and a prayer entitled, The Least of These, in the book, “Lifting Women’s Voices, Prayers to Change the World,” which addresses the themes of the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals. She frequently writes for Forward Movement and is featured in their recent edition entitled, “Away to the Manger.”
Glenice is married to Paul L. Como and they have two children, Paul R. and Dominique and extended family member, Peabody, their West Highland terrier.

Reverend Rhonda Rogers named Deacon for St. Francis of Assisi
The Reverend Rhonda Rogers of Houston has been named Deacon in Charge at St. Francis of Assisi, effective August 26, 2019. Rogers was recently ordained a Deacon at the special ordination service at Christ Church Cathedral on June 22, 2019.
Rogers prepared for her service with enrollment and graduation from the Diocese of Texas' Iona School for Ministry on June 9, 2019. Following her ordination Rogers will be consecrated to the
priesthood in December or January with a special service at St. Francis of Assisi.
Rogers, as the bi-vocational leader, will provide two-days of service to the church and will engage in programs and activities that enhances the spiritual growth and development of the members and also support a college ministry at Prairie View A&M University.
In her middler year at Iona, she was assigned at St. Stephen’s, Liberty,
TX for her field education experience. She is currently completing her senior
field education assignment at Holy Comforter, Spring, TX.
She was a member of Trinity Midtown after moving from Rochester, NY in
2010. She served there in various roles including Verger, LEM, Junior and
Senior Warden and led Evening Prayer for the LOTS ministry.
Rhonda is the chaplain for Union of Black Episcopal Reverend John D. Epps
Chapter. She is also a member of the Commission on Black Ministry, and the
Province VII Anti-Racism Committee. She completed Education for Ministry (EfM)
in 2003 and was an EfM mentor for two years.
In Rochester, NY, Rhonda was a member of Christ Church. She served as
Warden, Church School Coordinator, acolyte, sub-deacon, thurifer, and pastoral
visitor. She was also a member of Standing Committee and the Anti-Racism
Committee and an adjunct trainer for Congregational Development Institute in
the Diocese of Rochester, NY.
Rhonda has Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering from New Jersey
Institute of Technology and retired in 2016. She worked for Mobil Chemical and
ExxonMobil Chemical for over 38 years in various positions including process
and product development, technical advisor, and several management positions.
In addition to her technical career, Rhonda led employee training for Organizational
Development, Diversity and Inclusion at Mobil Chemical.
Rhonda’s spiritual journey includes regularly consulting with a spiritual director and participating in retreats with the Order of St. Helena, an Episcopal order of nuns where she is an Associate. She is also a member of Daughters of the King.
Rhonda has three adult children who live in Maryland and Arizona. Her
hobbies include traveling, going to the theatre, music, golf, and reading.

Dr. Rondell Bailey is Men's Breakfast Speaker at St. Francis of Assisi
Dr. Rondell E. Bailey, Education Director for the Harris Health System (HHS), Human Resources Learning and Resource Center is the speaker for the monthly Men's Prayer Breakfast at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church which is set for Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall the church on 204 Dooley Street. Dr. Bailey joined HHS in 2000 and moved up the ranks. In his current position, he is a skilled facilitator with expertise in a variety of areas including learning and development, employee engagement, talent management, leadership development, employee orientation and onboarding, teambuilding, and customer service. His previous services with Harris Health System included as the Operations Manager–Business and Staff Development, Ancillary and Support Services and the Pharmacy Staff Development & Recruitment Manager in the Department of Pharmacy, Harris Health System in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Bailey has a wonderful rapport with people and has been recognized for his ability to connect with others. He uses his excellent communication skills to help convey concepts and is a skilled practitioner in the use of collaborative, learner-centered techniques.
He holds a Doctorate degree in Higher Education, Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration from “The Jewel of 3rd Ward” - Texas Southern University and a high school diploma from Jack Yates High School, respectively.
Bailey also holds membership in several social, civic and professional organizations to include
Research Association of Minority Professors (RAMP), Association for Talent Development
Texas Southern University Alumni Association, and the Jack Yates National Alumni Association.
Dr. Bailey loves his family. Most of all, he loves the Lord! He accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and was baptized at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. D. Leon Everett, II. Dr. Bailey is an “adopted member” of Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church (Houston) – where his mother is a longtime member and Dr. Max Miller is the pastor. Currently, Dr. Bailey is an active member of the New Faith Church of Houston where Dr. Andre J. Lewis is the pastor and Dr. T.R. Williams, Sr. is the founder and pastor emeritus.

Bishop Fisher to Celebrate Eucharist and Preach at St. Francis of Assisi
The Rt. Reverend Jeff W. Fisher, Bishop Suffragan of the Diocese of Texas is the preacher and celebrant at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Prairie View on Sunday, June 23, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. The public is invited to the service which will be followed by a reception in the Parish Hall.
Reverend
Fisher serves as the regional bishop of the Eastern Region of the Diocese. He
was elected bishop Suffragan and consecrated in 2012. In addition to his
visitations to parishes and missions, Bishop Fisher serves as executive for
pastoral ministries, including clergy and their families.
He
serves on numerous boards and institutions, including the Episcopal Church
Women, Daughters of the King, Altar Guild, the Little Church Club, All Saints’ Episcopal
School in Tyler, St. Vincent’s House in Galveston and St. James House, the diocesan
retirement community in Baytown.
Bishop Fisher
is known for
his compelling preaching,
his focus on
evangelism and his
encouragement of the laity. He teaches homiletics at the Iona School for
Ministry. A graduate of The University of Texas, Austin, Bishop
Fisher was previously
CFO for Hand
Benefits & Trust,
Inc., Houston. He received a Master in Divinity in 2004 and was awarded
a Doctor of Divinity in 2013, both from Virginia Theological Seminary.
Ordained
in 2004, Bishop Fisher served as curate at St. Mary’s, Cypress, before being
called as rector at St. Alban’s, Waco, where he ushered in a time of unprecedented
growth.
Bishop
Fisher and his wife Susan have two adult sons, Scott and John. The Fishers reside in Tyler, Texas.
Additionally,
the church will recognize Reverend Cynthia Engle for her eight years of service
at St. Francis of Assisi on Sunday, June 30 at 11:00 a.m. The public is invited
to worship and the reception.
